Morocco Atlantic Coast Trip From Tangier

Day 1: Tangier – Rabat – Casablanca

Our team will meet at the Airport or your hotel. Then, transfer to Casablanca which 4-hour drive with stops at Cape Spartel (with a visit to the grotto of Hercules), and another stop in the town of Asilah. Cape Spartel is famous for the fact that here you can see the confluence of the Atlantic Ocean with the Mediterranean Sea, as well as the mysterious cave of Hercules. According to legend, it was the resting place of the mythical hero during his 11th feat. The sea-facing opening of the grotto is shaped like a human head (or the African continent) and is believed to be connected by a tunnel to the Spanish coast.

Afterward continue to Asilah, a small town on the Atlantic coast with Portuguese fortifications of the 15th century. The walls of the houses of her neat medina are painted by artists during the annual festival. We will take a walk through this pleasant photogenic town, have lunch at a local restaurant, and continue our journey to Casablanca. Once we arrive in the city, we will have a visit to Hassan II mosque, one of the highest minarets in the world.

Breakfast at the hotel and check out. Continuing our journey to Essaouira, we will visit some beautiful cities on our way such as El Jadida(old name – “Mazagan”) – a small port city that is a Portuguese fortress of the 16th century. There are almost no tourists on its quiet semi-abandoned streets, and it seems that time has stopped here. We will visit the underground cistern (a UNESCO world heritage site) on the territory of the fortress, which once served as a warehouse and storage of water. Gothic vaults and a beam of light reflected in the water create a unique effect. This place has served as a set for several films, the most famous of which is Othello by Orson Welles.

Next, head to Oualidia – a small fishing and resort village on the shores of a unique lagoon with a length of more than 8 km. Its warm, calm waters are the ideal environment for growing oysters. That is why Oualidia is one of the best places in Morocco for lovers of oysters and seafood. We can have Oyster tasting and lunch at a seafood restaurant. (optional): boat trip on the lagoon.

Essaouira attracts artists from all over the world who stay here to breathe in the fabulous air of the old trading port and the largest pirate center. We inspect the local Medina, the fish market, the Jewish quarter “Mellah” and the port. Essaouira boasts that the best cabinetmakers and sculptors of Morocco work here. Here we will buy argan oil and numerous beauties, Essaouira is the best city to shop for traditional handicrafts.

Once we arrive, we will have a coffee break, then meet a local tour guide to start this fantastic Agadir experience. The city tour will include the most stunning sights of Agadir:

The town is known for its fishing industry, beautiful beaches whitewashed buildings. The beaches in and around Sidi Ifni are some of the best in Morocco. The water is crystal clear and the sand is white and powdery.

Just a short drive from Sidi Ifni passing by Guelmim is the Tafraout village, which is home painted rocks, gardens of almond, and Argan trees.

Tafraout is a small Berber town. Let’s make a stop at an unusual art object in the vicinity of the town, the colored stones, painted by the Belgian artist  Jean Vérame in 1984. To create this controversial art object with an area of 5km. it took about 19 tons of paint, which was brought by trucks. However, colored stones have become one of Tafraout’s calling cards and a favorite spot for photos.

Along the way, you’ll get some of the best food Morocco has to offer. Be sure to try the traditional tagine, a slow-cooked stew made with meat and vegetables. And of course, no trip to Morocco would be complete without a cup of mint tea.

continue our journey to Taroudant (4 hours excluding stops). Taroudant is called the “grandmother of Marrakech” because this city was the capital in the XVI century before it was transferred to Marrakech, and its powerful city walls resemble those of Marrakech. Now, this small quiet town is known for its handicrafts, especially carpets and jewelry. Overnight at the hotel in Taroudant.

Day 8: Taroudant – Marrakesh
