7 Days Family Trip in Morocco From Ouarzazate
Day 1: Arrival in Ouarzazate
Arrive at the airport, you will meet our team who will be with you throughout your journey in Morocco. We will start our tour by exploring the city of Ouarzazate. The first place to visit is the Taourirt Kasbah. It is one of the most visited places in the city as it is considered a national heritage. Ouarzazate is usually called the “Hollywood of Morocco” due to the number of movies that were filmed there. It also has different cinema studios and museums. Once we finish our tour in the Kasbah, we will head to your Hotel/Riad for the overnight.
Day 2: Ouarzazate – Agdz – Draa Valley – Zagora
After breakfast, we start our trip from Ouarzazate to Zagora passing by different Berber villages in the Atlas Mountains. crossing the Anti Atlas, the path that will take us directly to Agdz which is a small village near Draa Valley. It is a perfect village to enjoy the fresh air, have some time to rest, and also do nothing but enjoy nature where life goes slowly. Next, go to the Draa river which is the longest river in Morocco 1.100km. The river flows from the high Atlas mountains and it has millions of palm trees that produce an important quantity of dates every year. Continue to Zagora which is known as the gate to Sahara. It has a beautiful desert and amazing camps as well. However, on our tour, we are going to the famous Shara Desert of Merzouga. A few kilometers away from Zagora, we will stop at Tamegroute where a famous mosque with a blue faience roof and white minarets is located. Then visit the Koranic library which was created in the 16th century. Next, continue to Zagora village where we will have the overnight.
Day 3: Zagora – Tafraoute – Tamlia – Ouzina
Today, we will drive crossing the desert with a unique view. There are many stops on the way. The first stop is Tafraouet which has many places to discover. The first one is the La Maison Traditionnelle, which is one of the abandoned Berber houses that was renovated but the people who returned to the village. Then, we will see the painted Rocks, as well as Le Chapeau de Napoleon, they don’t look like Napoleon’s Hat but they are still impressive, it is possible to climb to the top to enjoy the stunning view from there. Afterward, continue to the Ouzina Desert, where you can appreciate the silence, peace, and magic of the desert in its purest state.
Overnight is at Ouzina camp.
Day 4: Ouzina – Merzouga
In the morning, we will have a short drive to reach Merzouga the famous Sahara Desert. Once we arrive, we will have an excursion in the Desert, then have a cup of tea with Nomads in the tent and learn how they arrange to live in the desert. Next, we will visit Khmilia to enjoy the Gnawa performance. Later, we will have a camel ride to the camp and enjoy the beautiful sunset on our way. In the camp, you will be greeted with a delicious dinner and traditional music on tam-tams. At night, we will arrange musical gatherings around the fire under the insanely starry sky. The camps in the desert are well equipped, every tent has its shower toilet and all the facilities.
Day 5: Merzouga – Rissani – Erfoud – Todgha – Dades gorge
After enjoying the sunrise over the majestic and silent dunes in the early morning, we will leave the desert and head toward Dades Valley. On the way, we will pass by The Rissan, a small village where King Hassan II was born. Then stop at Erfoud which is known for authentic fossils and minerals, we can visit one of the fossil factories or museums and learn the process of finding and extracting fossils in these regions. Later, continue to Tinghir and more specifically Todgha Gorges the world’s most spectacular canyons. It is a natural oasis created by the Todra River for many centuries. Our next stop will be Dades valley which is around 1h30 minutes away from Tinghir.
Overnight in Dades.
Day 6: Dades – Valley of Roses – Skoura – Ouarzazate
After breakfast, we will visit Dades gorges which are quite similar to Todgha but it has a unique landscape that we will enjoy. We will possibly have an optional short walk. We will continue our journey to the Skura oasis in the vicinity of Ouarzazate and pass by Kalaat M’gouna which is known for growing roses. The festival of roses is held in this village every year. Once we reach Skoura, It is optional to have a walking tour of Skoura Oasis. Skoura is a fertile oasis full of palm and olive trees. During the tour, you will learn how locals arrange to live in these ancient Kasbahs.
Transfer to Ouarzazate (30 min) drive. The city is known for the production of movies. Ouarzazate has three large film studios, the main ones are Atlas Film Studio and Cinema Museum. So, Next is to explore those amazing places and get to know the movies that were filmed there as well as the decor that was used in the movies.
Overnight in Ouarzazate.
Day 7: Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate
Today, we will head toward Ait Ben Haddou to visit the famous kasbah. It is around 30 minutes drive from Ouarzazate. Ait Ben Haddou is a fortified town of adobe houses, it attracts producers and Actors around the world as it is a place this is a place where many movies have been filmed, including Gladiator, Asterix and Obelix, Sahara, and much more. Once we finish our tour, transfer to the airport for your flight.
